St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery

Grave Lot Rules

The cemetery of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee, Ohio, shall be under the direction of the Pastor, who appoints a designee from the staff and a Cemetery Board to assist him with the governance of the cemetery. It shall be the duty of the sexton to take care of the cemetery, keep and repair the fences and roads, and maintain all grave lots and columbarium niches in good condition. Further, the sexton shall enforce the rules and regulations of the cemetery, preserve order of the cemetery and at funerals, and see to the opening and closing of graves when authorized by burial/interment permit.

These rules and regulations are for the purpose of maintaining the cemetery as a beautiful sanctuary. These cemetery rules are based upon Diocesan rules, the discipline of the Roman Catholic Church, and principles of sound management. Cooperation is asked in abiding by them so the grounds will be preserved as a respectable and attractive resting place for parish members. The Cemetery Board, in addition to the sexton, has the obligation to enforce all rules and regulations, oversee the opening and closing of all graves, require foundations for monuments or markers, maintain all equipment and buildings, and landscape and beautify the grounds. The aim is to protect the rights and privileges of parishioners, improve the cemetery's appearance, and have the cemetery reflect the pride and commitment of the parish.

Burials/interments are not permitted on Sundays, National Holidays, or Holy Days of Obligation. Cemetery visiting hours are from dawn to dusk.

All persons performing work at the cemetery shall be subject to the cemetery's rules and regulations. Contractors performing work must have comprehensive liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance.

Graves will be sold by the pastor’s designee in the Parish Office. Purchasers of graves shall receive a certificate/deed entitling them to the right of burial of the dead in said graves, subject to the rules and regulations of St. Joseph Cemetery, the discipline of the Roman Catholic Church, and the laws of the Diocese of Toledo now in force or that may hereafter be adopted, with regard to funerals and burials/interments.

Grave owners may only sell unused gravesites back to St. Joseph Parish for a refund of the original purchase price.
