The Mission of St. Joseph Boosters is to provide the best athletic and scouting programs for the youth in our parish. We are proud to be a part of CYO athletics and the Boys and Girl Scouts of America. We believe in a positive Christian environment. With the unconditional support of parents, teachers, coaches and leaders, Booster activities will teach our children excellent work ethics, skills and values they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Young Adult Ministry – Real Life Catholics

Perpetual Adoration Chapel
A quiet, calming, refuge from our busy world to spend time with our Lord. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  We are always looking for someone to take a time slot (usually an hour at a time) and stay in the Chapel.  If you are interested please call the Parish Office.

Teachers Of Our Faith
Teachers are needed for this very rewarding and important ministry.  We instruct children from preschool through high school.  If you are interested in sharing your faith with eager hearts and minds, please call the Youth Formation Office at 419-893-7025.

Music Ministry – Parish Choir
This choir is open to all parishioners of high school age and older. The choir typically sings at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays except during the summer.  The choir also sings for special liturgies including Christmas Mass at Midnight and the Easter Vigil. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the church.  All voices are welcome.  Some musical training is helpful, but the teaching of basic musicianship as well as time for prayer and fellowship are incorporated into the choir rehearsal.

Music Ministry – Cantors
Cantors serve as the psalmist and fill the role of song leader at liturgies when no choir is present.  Adult cantors must audition and periodically rehearse with the director of music ministries.  Interested young cantors from our school and children’s choirs are encouraged to come forward and train for this important ministry.

Music Ministry – Handbell Choir
A handbell choir has recently formed at St. Joseph Parish. For more information, please contact the Director of Music and Liturgy.

Music Ministry – Additional instrumentalists
Occasionally the parish hires professional musicians for special liturgies (like Christmas and Easter).  However, volunteer musicians of any age and skill level are always welcome to contribute their time and talent in various ways.  If you are interested in playing an instrument at Mass please contact the Director of Music in the Parish Office.

Liturgical Ministries

Liturgical Ministry Schedule

Lectors
Proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy.  They should possess a good public speaking voice and be committed to praying the Word of God and preparing for their ministry.  Lectors are trained and scheduled by the director of music and liturgy.

Extra-ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Eucharistic Ministers have two distinct functions. 1) They assist the priest and deacon in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful at Mass, and 2) They take the Eucharist to the infirmed and homebound.  Some elect to do one or the other or both. EMs must be trained by a priest or deacon, and all EMs must be formally re-commissioned every two years. EMs for our weekend Masses are scheduled by the Ministry Scheduler Pro Web Terminal (see above). EMs who take the Eucharist to the area hospitals, nursing homes and homebound are coordinated by someone in the parish.  If you, or someone you know, are unable to attend Mass and would like the Blessed Sacrament brought to you, please call the Parish Office at (419) 893-4848.

Sacristy Coordinators
Sacristy Coordinators are Extra-ordinary ministers who arrive early before Mass and prepare the vessels—portioning out the bread and wine, etc. They also ensure that there are a sufficient number of distributors for the Mass, as well as wash and put away the purified vessels after Mass.

Altar Servers
Altar servers assist the priest in the sanctuary during the Mass and carry the processional cross and candles in the entrance procession as well as the incense when used. They should arrive early to assist the priest in setting up for Mass, lighting the candles and vesting. Typically altar servers are trained in the 5th grade and then continue to serve through at least 8th grade, while others choose to continue through high school. We also have some adult altar servers who assist at daily Mass and funerals when student servers are not available.

Ushers/Greeters
Ushers and Greeters welcome people as they enter the church, assist in finding available seating, direct visitors to the restrooms, take up the offertory collection, pass out the bulletins after Mass and help to straighten up the missalettes and hymnals.
