Youth Catechesis
Early Childhood
The Early Childhood Religious Education program begins in September and is offered during the 11 a.m. Mass on most Sundays throughout the school year. For children 3, 4, and 5-years-old, this program offers faith formation at a level appropriate to their age. The children learn bible stories, prayers, sing Christian songs, and hear about various saints as their feast days are celebrated. Not only does this program help develop a child's faith, but it also helps parents participate more fully in the Mass while the children are in session. Classes are held in the school. To register, please contact the Youth Formation Office.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Commencing the first Sunday after Labor Day and continuing throughout the school year, (except Christmas and Easter), St. Joseph Parish offers a children's Liturgy of the Word during the 11 a.m. mass. It is for children in first througth fourth grades. Shortly after Liturgy begins, the children are invited to the Plane and Lathe room for Scripture reading that is tailored to their own level of understanding. Through approporiately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer and activities, the children can experience a deeper understanding and participation in the liturgy. No registration is necessary.
Youth Formation
The St. Joseph Youth Catechesis program for children in public schools entering first through sixth grades is comprised of two components. It begins with Camp Joy, the heart of religious education, which is held the last two weeks of June from 9 a.m. until noon. It continues with Activity Nights which focuses on feasts, seasons, and our Catholic heritage. With the sessions of both Camp Joy and Wednesday Activity Nights the children, through a combination of classroom discussions, hands-on learning and community prayer experiences, learn about God, Scripture, sacraments, liturgy, their Catholic faith, and they strengthen the bond they have with each other and their parish community.
