The Sacrament of Reconciliation The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as the Sacrament of Penance, or Confession) has three elements: conversion, confession and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional forgiveness, and as a result we are called to forgive others. Reconciliation is for our spiritual healing. According to the Gospels, after the Resurrection, Jesus appeared to the apostles, breathed on them, and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” (John 20:22-23) That’s why Jesus left this sacrament, to heal our spiritual wounds, which we call sin. (www.americancatholic.org) Confessing our sins can be a wonderful, uplifting experience. Most people tell confidential information to their doctor or lawyer, so why not a priest? He is bound by the most absolute secrecy and confidentiality known to humankind. Priests cannot reveal who they heard, or what they said to anyone. Reconciliation at St. Joseph Catholic Church The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered on Saturdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and by appointment. In addition there are Days of Grace and Reconciliation offered during the Advent and Lenten Liturgical seasons as well as Penance services both here and other parishes; please watch the bulletin for these dates.
