The Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation is a Catholic sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Like Baptism and Eucharist, it is a Sacrament of Initiation for Catholics and a Sacrament of faith in God's fidelity to us. Confirmation is regarded as the perfection of Baptism, because, as the introduction to the Rite of Confirmation states: by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.(www.americancatholic.org;www.catholic.org) It also means accepting responsibility for your faith and your destiny. The focus is on the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the disciples on Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) and gave them courage to practice their faith.
