St. Joe's Walking Club

St. Joseph's has a safe and healthy alternative for activity during recess time.  St. Joe's offers a Walking Club for grades K-8.  With parents permission, the student's are supervised while they walk outside, around the school building.  St. Joe's offers incentives for walking.  Our hope is to help the students learn that being active makes them feel better and more alert for afternoon learning.

Fuel for your body

Breakfast is very important for a learning and growing child.  It is the fuel our brain needs to keep learning and growing.  You would not start a car trip without putting fuel into the engine.  Please do not send your child to school without fueling their bodies!

Feeling sluggish?

Take a family walk after dinner.  While watching television, take turns picking an exercise the entire family can do together during the commercials.  During a half-hour television program, you and your family can get over 10 minutes of exercise!  Stay active!

Be a food role model

Be a good role model and eat your fruits and vegetables.  Make it a family project to grocery shop together and pick out new fruits and vegetables that you all will try.  Eat the alphabet in fruits and vegetables!

Rub-a-dub-dub

When your child is sick, give their tooth brush a bath in the dishwasher to rid it of!!

Wash your hands

The bottom line in helping prevent colds and the flu is good hand washing.  Remind your children to keep their fingers and objects out of their mouth.  Think good nutrition, healthy exercising with some fresh air and good hygiene and we will all be healthier individuals.

Birthday Parties

Make your next birthday party centered on physical activity.  Backyard, Olympics, Relay Races, have a bowling or skating party, and give gifts that encourage physical activity.

Fruits & Veggies

Include a fruit and/or vegetable in your child's lunch.  Make sure lunch also includes some sort of protein.

Dairy Products

Remember dairy products are the building blocks for strong bones.  The foundation we build our bodies on now will affect us the rest of our lives.
