Mrs. Wagener's Biography

Mrs. Wagener grew up in a rural community, on Eber Road, near the Toledo Express Airport, in Swanton, Ohio.  She was fortunate to live next door to her aunt and uncle, cousin, and maternal grandparents.

Mrs. Wagener attended St. Joseph School in Maumee, during her elementary years, where there were two rooms for each grade level, with 50+ students per room!  The Sisters of Notre Dame were the principle instructors, and lived across the street from the school.

McAuley High School was a private girl’s school that she attended for four years in Toledo, Ohio.  In those days there was no bus transportation, and so her parents were she chauffeurs!  She was involved in French Club, Glee Club, and Drama Club.

She received a Bachelor’s of Education degree from the University of Toledo, and has eight hours towards her Masters Degree.

Mrs. Wagener began her teaching career in September 1972, at St. Joseph School in Maumee, where she has taught for the past 31 years! (She took 2 years off to care for her dying mother, and newly adopted Korean son, Micah).  During her first year of teaching third grade at St. Joe’s, she met her “old” grade school classmate, Eric Wagener, who was in his second year of teaching fifth grade.  They started dating, and two years later, they walked down the aisle as husband and wife, at St. Joseph Church in Maumee.

Mrs. Wagener received the, “Educator of the Year” award in 1997, sponsored by the Maumee Chamber of Commerce, which was a very proud moment for her!

Her husband is an elementary school principal, at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns School, and they are the proud parents of four children!

She hopes someday, to be able to travel with her husband, throughout the United States, and abroad.
